I woke up to the hum of the radio
In and out with bites of static
I was severely numb likely caused by lack of sleep,
yes, I could have just gotten up.
It was one of those grey days though, you know the kind;
the sky, you're plaster walls and rigid ceiling, even your coffee.
...."gonna' be a out of season low for this time of..." the radio hissed.
Bob Dylan crackles through the speakers just as the rain begins to tap away at the tin roof.
Great, even more motivated to get up, I thought
I reach over to light a cigarette, and take a swig of coffee forgetting it's cold from yesterday.

Summer Storm for a Calm Mind
Echoes of the bees drone on in the distance of my otherwise quiet cul-de-sac, save for the wind chimes and leaves rustled by the occasional breeze, on this arid mid-July afternoon. That is what’s on my mind when I dream about the summer, so as to disconnect from winters icy grasp, even if only for a few minutes. I remember the thick, southern Indiana air seemed to weigh on our bodies like an extended stay survival pack, and yet, I prefer it over being cold, and I always dreaded the departure of my favorite season.
